Flash flood watch in effect for area

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a flash flood watch for Carbon, Monroe, and Northampton in Pennsylvania through late tonight.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move through the area today into this evening. The stronger storms will be capable of producing torrential downpours, and the storms may have a tendency to move over the same areas. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches may occur in a short amount of time. This could lead to

localized flash flooding.

Today: Showers and thunderstorms before 3 p.m., then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Areas of fog before 8 a.m. High near 76. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers before 8 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8 p.m. and midnight, then a chance of showers after midnight. Areas of fog after 1 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday: A chance of showers before 11 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Areas of fog before 7 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 11 p.m., then a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: Showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11 a.m. High near 80. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
