NL approves title change for administrator to assistant superintendent

Northern Lehigh School Board on Monday approved a change in title for one of its highest ranking administrators.

On a unanimous vote, the school board on Monday approved a title change for Dr. Tania Stoker from assistant to the superintendent to assistant superintendent with no salary change.

In addition, the board also approved a three-year agreement for Stoker, effective July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2022.

Superintendent Matthew J. Link congratulated Stoker.

“You’ve definitely earned this title,” Link said.

After the meeting, Link said that once sworn in at the Court House, Stoker will be a commissioned officer of state and serve as the assistant superintendent.

While there is no increase in salary for being appointed assistant superintendent, Link said Stoker will continue to be eligible for pay increase in alignment with the other administrative staff.

Additionally, there is no change in health or retirement benefits, Link said.

He said Stoker will continue to be the lead administrator in the district for curriculum, instruction, and assessment, and will also continue to plan the district wide professional development and oversee all federal programs, such as Title I services.

“We are very fortunate to have her in the district, and she has already accomplished many things for the betterment of the areas she oversees,” he said.

Stoker was appointed assistant to the superintendent in November 2017 at a prorated annual salary of $120,000.

She replaced former Assistant Superintendent Karen Nicholas who retired Feb. 12, 2018 after 18 years of service with the district.

Nicholas most recently spent eight years as assistant superintendent, before serving 10 years as principal of Peters Elementary.
