KeyBank branch helps clean up pool

A local bank has once again made its presence felt in the community.

KeyBank recently held its 29th annual Neighbors Make the Difference Day.

Neighbors Make the Difference Day is a day of volunteerism supported by paid time off.

For their part, employees from KeyBank’s Lehighton branch recently assisted at Baer Memorial Swimming Pool in Lehighton.

“This was our third year helping with the pool,” said Scott Kane, branch manager.

Kane said branch employees assisted by prepping the community pool for its opening weekend.

The pool was scheduled to open at noon today, weather permitting, according to Tom Evans, recreation director.

Branch employees assisted with pool cleaning, painting, hanging privacy fence, grass cutting, power washing and cleanup.

Evans said the group’s help was both extremely useful, and much appreciated.

“It’s awesome that the bank does this, helping us with cleanup and setup for the summer and helping the community,” Evans said.

More than 6,000 KeyBank employees participated in the Neighbors Make the Difference Day.

The number of volunteer hours is expected to be nearly 25,000.

Neighbors Make the Difference Day was started more than 25 years ago by a group of employees in Alaska.

Two years later, the idea swept across a number of communities that KeyBank serves and became an official day of employee volunteerism, now the hallmark of the bank’s commitment to its neighborhoods.
