Panther Valley Elementary School and Ametek Inc. have held a partnership for more than 15 years, and now it has gotten stronger to help more students in need.

The Ametek Foundation, an organization derived from Ametek Inc. that focuses on donating to local charities and organizations. The Ametek Foundation has donated approximately $115,000 a year to PVES for 15 years.

“The Ametek Foundation is an incredible partner for PVES,” Robert Palazzo, principal of Panther Valley Elementary, said.

In addition to that amount, an $18,000 grant has been provided for elementary schools to gain more access to reading material.

The grant money will be used at the books fairs held during the school year. There are typically three book fairs a year at Panther Valley Elementary. Students can purchase books, but some students are unable, which is why the Ametek Foundation wanted to help.

“Any student who cannot afford to buy books at the book fair will receive an Ametek Foundation certificate to buy at least one book,” Palazzo said. “Every student will get a new book.”

The Ametek Foundation also helped sponsor a two-week summer reading program. Students will be able to participate in a research setting and gain small group instruction skills. Bus transportation will be provided to students. This will be the first year for the summer reading program.

“We’re grateful to offer additional opportunities to students and staff,” John Mayernik, plant manager of Ametek, said. “Continued reading over the summer months will enhance students’ skills.”

The remainder of the grant money will go toward purchasing books for the school’s library.

This initiative will begin next school year.
