Coaldale seeking tenants for space vacated by Pathstone

Coaldale Borough is looking for tenants to occupy the space vacated by Pathstone Head Start in January.

The air quality issues which led Pathstone to vacate the space have been corrected, and may have been initially overstated, according to council members.

Council voted Tuesday night to place advertisements looking for a new tenant for the space. The price of the rental will be determined by the amount of space a potential tenant wants to occupy.

People interested in renting the space can contact the borough office at 570-645-6310.

The borough recently finished painting the inside of the space, and a contractor fixed a malfunctioning water heater.

Councilwoman Claire Remington said the air quality in the space is perfect. Seitz Brothers tested the air quality late last year and found that it was only enough to affect people with allergies, and who were consistently spending long periods of time in the building.

“The quality of that air is in the same as your house,” Remington said.

The borough has added air purifiers and HVAC units, which Remington said will prevent people from having problems caused by poor air quality.

Pathstone’s lease officially ended March 31.

Remington said council hopes to have the space rented by September.

Pathstone moved their Head Start program from Coaldale to Lehighton after the air quality issues were discovered. In January, parents received a letter which stated that the program would not return to the complex. The letter, from a vice president of Pathstone, said the borough didn’t comply with a request from Pathstone to provide air quality testing reports for the entire building, not just the area rented by Pathstone.
