A Summit Hill police officer’s valiant attempt to resuscitate a young child who went into cardiac arrest was recognized Monday by Summit Hill Borough Council.

Kodie Pituch, who has been a part-time patrolman in Summit Hill for about two years, was presented with a certificate of commendation and appreciation.

Chief of Police Joseph Fittos Jr., Mayor Paul McArdle and council President Michael Kokinda presented him with a certificate.

The award stems from Pituch’s actions on the evening of April 17.

Fittos said Pituch responded to a 911 call “for an unresponsive child.”

He said Pituch was first to arrive on the scene and administered CPR until ambulance personnel arrived.

Pituch then carried the youngster to the ambulance “and continued CPR all the way to the hospital.”

Unfortunately, the boy didn’t make it.

The police chief said Pituch remained calm and was “professional and caring toward the patient and the patient’s family.”
