Coaldale domestic assault

Coaldale police have filed charges in a domestic assault that was reported on Jan. 4.

Officers went to the 100 block of East Ridge Street at 6:02 p.m. and met with the victim. The woman said she was at the house to retrieve some of her personal belongings when she began arguing with Kenneth William Hankey, 60. At one point, he pushed her. That escalated and he pulled her by the hair and threw her to the floor. He then grabbed her by the neck and began applying pressure. When he released her, she was able to flee and call police. She handed the officer a clump of hair and showed him a bald spot on her scalp.

Hankey admitted pulling the woman’s hair, throwing her to the ground and wrapping his hands around her neck, but said he did it in self-defense after Kim Graver, 56, came to his home around 5:30 p.m. Hankey said they argued before she struck him in the face. He grabbed her by the hair, took her to the ground and told her he would punch her if she didn’t stop punching him. He allowed her to get up, retrieve her items and leave.

He was charged with simple assault, strangulation and harassment, while she was charged with simple assault and harassment.
