A Schuylkill County man was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon and the driver is facing driving under the influence and other charges.

State police at Schuylkill Haven identified the victim as Jay Spotts, 68, no address given. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said the incident occurred about 1:53 p.m. as Spotts was walking eastbound along Sweet Arrow lake Road in Wayne Township. Patricia M. Hellinger, 44, of Pine Grove, driving a 2004 Subaru Outback, was eastbound when her vehicle struck Spotts. The county coroner reported Spotts died of blunt force injuries to the head, neck and chest.

Troopers said Hellinger will be charged with DUI of alcohol or a controlled substance.

Hellinger and her passenger, Tessa Hellinger, 18, Pine Grove, were not injured.
