History is repeating itself in the Tamaqua area, thanks to a local business owner who is following her dreams.

“I wanted to bring a walk-in men’s haircut salon to the area,” said Making the Cut owner Wendy Keich.

“We offer ten-dollar walk-in haircuts. Some of the other services will be by appointment, because they take a little bit longer. We’re going to offer services such as massages, pedicures, men’s facials, scalp massages and gray-blending.”

The venue is located conveniently on Centre Street near the five-points intersection. In fact, the building used to be a barber shop in the 1960s.

Keich’s salon is sleek, and the walls and windows are beginning to be decked out with local sports memorabilia.

“I wanted it to be a sports-oriented theme,” Keich said.

“I came up with the name, because when you’re trying out for a sports team, you’re looking to make the cut. I’m looking for any old (high school) memorabilia from sports in the surrounding area. I want to pay tribute to the history of all of the great sports teams.”

Keich has a ton of experience in the industry, but her career path took a different turn at one point.

However, now she has the opportunity to do what she is passionate about every day.

“I’ve been cutting hair since 1986,” said Keich. “I used to be located across town for a while. I then went back to my old profession in banking. However, I just saw a need in the community for a walk-in men’s haircut place. Plus, I had breast cancer, and owning this business is something I wanted to do for a very long time. I decided that now is the time.”

Keich is originally from Tamaqua and now resides in Hometown. She has had a ton of support from her husband, David Keich, and other family members.

Many community members were on site for the exciting grand opening last week.

“I just want to serve all of the small towns in the surrounding area,” she said.

“Everyone has been giving me a ton of positive feedback. I love being creative, working with my hands, and talking with the people. I know a lot of the community, and I am glad to be back to being a local business owner.”
