A Schuylkill County man was jailed Wednesday following a standoff with police and is facing multiple charges.

State police at Schuylkill Haven identified the suspect as Terry Short, 55, of Auburn. He has been charged with felony counts of burglary, robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm prohibited; and misdemeanor counts of theft, receiving stolen property, terroristic threats, unlawful restraint, possession of a weapon and simple assault.

Troopers said the incident began at 1:35 p.m. at the residence of a 63-year-old woman located along Geronimo Drive in Lake Wynonah, Wayne Township. Lake Wynonah is a gated community.

Troopers said the victim arrived home and found a vehicle parked in her driveway. She walked up to the front door of the home and attempted to open the door, but it was locked. She walked away, at which time Short came out of the front door holding two pillowcases full of her items. Short then took the victim’s cellphone out of her hand, and after a brief verbal confrontation in the driveway, he took the victim inside the home.

Once inside the home, Short pulled a pistol and forced the woman to walk in front of him in the house. He then retrieved items from within the house and fled the scene in a vehicle.

Troopers said the victim was able to positively identify Short.

Around 4:30 p.m. troopers went to Short’s home with both an arrest and search warrants. Short refused to leave the home willingly. The state police Special Emergency Response Team was activated and was able to take Short into custody a few hours later.

He was arraigned before on-call District Judge David J. Rossi, of Tremont. Short was committed to the county prison after failing to post $100,000 straight cash bail.
