Schuylkill commissioners award contract for drainage project

During a meeting Wednesday, the Schuylkill County Commissioners awarded a $58,885 contract to Blue Ridge Excavating & Hauling, Shamokin, for a Community Development Block Grant stormwater drainage project in Delano Township. Blue Ridge was the lowest of 10 bidders for the work.

The commissioners also approved revision to ongoing CDBG projects in Tamaqua, including modifications to funding for fiscal years 2014-18. The revisions are a result of changes in expected costs for street improvements, ongoing with CDBG funds. Funds will be designated for a public facility handicap improvement project; the project involves accessibility improvements at the town’s municipal building.

In other action the commissioners:

Reappointed two people to serve five-year terms as members of the Schuylkill County Municipal Authority: John Boyers, Orwigsburg; Brock Stein, Orwigsburg.

Approved a $600,000 budget adjustment for the county’s Children & Youth Agency. After the meeting, Director of Finance Paul Buber explained that the money is needed to cover program expenses, and the amount will be covered later by matching funds from the state.

Adopted the Bank Depository and Investment Policy Statement, effective Jan. 1, 2019. Buber said that the county already had good procedures in place; the newly adopted policy statement formalizes existing policy, he said.

On behalf of the Coroner’s Office, approved an agreement with National Medical Services Inc. for laboratory testing and related services; it is a fee-for-service agreement.
