Wyoming Seminary routs Lehighton in field hockey

BLOOMSBURG – It was all Wyoming Seminary in Saturday’s state field hockey quarterfinal game against Lehighton.

Seminary routed the Indians 11-0 and advanced to Tuesday’s semifinal game. Junior Hannah Maxwell led the scoring effort for the Blue Knights with four goals. Maxwell got Seminary on the board almost four minutes in the game which only began total domination for Coach Karen Klassner’s team.

Regardless of the outcome, Lehighton head coach Vanessa Rimbey was proud of her Indian squad for coming as far as they did.

“We knew they were really great strikers,” Rimbey said of Seminary. “I think in the game, they didn’t have one cheap goal that came. They were all amazing, really great goals. We focused a lot on marking in the circle. I’m happy they came this far and they have nothing to hold their heads low about. I’m proud of them.”

Lehighton ends the year with a 16-5-1 record and a District 11 championship. Read more about Saturday’s state quarterfinal game in Monday’s edition of the Times News.
