Suspects charged in Monroe courthouse bomb threats

A couple accused of making repeated bomb threats aimed at Monroe County Courthouse have been arrested, according to police.

Stroud Area Regional Police on Tuesday arrested Colleen Kasdaglis and Jesus Castrodad, both of Scotrun, for making threats to use weapons of mass destruction, terroristic threats, false alarms to public safety, and related charges. Bail was set at $1 million for each.

The arrests came after Monroe County Courthouse was evacuated for the 10th time this year due to bomb threats placed via phone.

Threats were received July 9, Sept. 10, Oct. 1 and 2, Nov. 2, 5 and 6.

“Each bomb threat caused the courthouse and neighboring facilities to be evacuated, interrupted daily court and county business, and cost taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars in lost productivity and emergency response costs,” the district attorney’s office said.

Detectives arrested Kasdaglis not long after Tuesday’s threat.

They allegedly saw her vehicle at a parking area in Tobyhanna State Park at the same time a bomb threat was placed at the courthouse. The detectives said they learned that the call was placed from the state park parking lot.

An alert was placed to local departments, and Kasdaglis’ vehicle was located a short time later by state police at the Lowe’s store in Mount Pocono. Police said she admitted to making the threats and assisting her boyfriend with making several others. Castrodad was also arrested on Tuesday.

Preliminary hearings have been set for later this month.

Investigation into the bomb threats from May 7 and June 11 is ongoing.
