State Police - Crashes

State police at Lehighton investigated the following crashes:

• A crash at the Busy B’s Gas Station, Lincoln Avenue, Bowmanstown, resulted in police learning that one of the vehicles had an expired registration and that its driver has an expired license.

Police did not reveal the identity of the operator, but said the driver of a 2005 Mazda was unaware of a 1997 GMC Safari behind him and backed the Mazda into the Safari. Both vehicles were drivable, police said.

• The driver of a 2000 Suzuki Katana 800 was uninjured when he was thrown from the cycle as it crashed at 2:50 p.m. Sept. 22 on the Forest Inn Road in Lower Towamensing Township.

Police said he was driving the cycle around a curve when it confronted a backlog on traffic due to another incident. The operator locked the brakes and lost control of the Suzuki, which slid onto its side ejecting the operator.

• Two vehicles were involved in a crash at 12:09 p.m. Oct. 12 at the intersection of Scenic Drive and the Jonas Road in Polk Township. Police said no one was injured and the cars were driven from the scene.

The crash happened when the driver of a 2016 Honda Civic attempted to make a left turn onto Scenic Drive before clearing the right of way to oncoming traffic and the vehicle struck a 2014 Nissan Versa.

• The driver of a 2018 Mazda CX-3 was unable to stop in time to avoid striking a deer at 5:11 a.m. Oct. 1 on Route 115 in Ross Township.

Police said the vehicle sustained damages to its hood, grille and panel areas.

• Two Tamaqua residents suffered injuries in a two-vehicle collision at 3:29 p.m. Oct. 11 on Interchange Road in Polk Township.

Police said Michael A. Deluzio, 68, of Kresgeville, was driving a 2007 Nissan Altima northbound when it crossed the double yellow lines and struck a southbound 2002 Subaru Outback operated by Mark L. Burger, 49, of Tamaqua. Police said both vehicles came to rest on the southbound shoulder of the road. The Altima was towed from the scene.

Police said Burger and his passenger, Sylvia D. Burger, 55, also of Tamaqua, were the ones possibly injured.

• A 17-year-old boy from Albrightsville was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a one-vehicle crash at 7:16 p.m. Oct. 3 on Pennell Road in Ross Township.

Police said he was driving a 1998 Jeep Cherokee south and approached a curve near Erica Drive. Because of driving too fast, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which went up an embankment, hit a stump and flipped onto its side.

The driver was uninjured.

The vehicle needed to be towed from the scene.

• Bryan O. Gonzalez, 29, of East Stroudsburg, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 2:13 a.m. Oct. 13 on the Kunkletown Road in Ross Township.

Police said he was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Cruz eastbound when he crossed over the westbound lane, traveled onto the north shoulder and struck a mailbox. Police said the vehicle continued east before striking a tree, going into a spin and coming to rest facing west.

Gonzalez was uninjured.

The vehicle sustained damages to its front end and the driver’s and passenger’s sides.

• A 2000 Volvo caught fire after its driver pulled it off the road at 2:55 p.m. Sept. 22 on Forest inn Road in Lower Towamensing Township.

Police said the driver believed the vehicle was not working properly so she pulled it off the roadway. Police said smoke began to come from the vehicle. As the driver was calling for assistance, a passerby stopped and advised her the car was on fire, prompting the driver to get out of the vehicle.
