Local Sports Roundup: Results from Sept. 20

Panther Valley took down Pottsville in a battle of volleyball unbeatens that highlighted Thursday’s scholastic sports schedule.

VOLLEYBALL

Pottsville-Panther Valley

Panther Valley kept rolling with a 25-20, 25-23, 18-25, 26-24 Schuylkill League victory over Pottsville.

The victory improves the Panthers’ record to 6-0 in Schuylkill League play and 7-0 overall. The Tide falls to 5-1 in the league and 7-1 overall.

Jenna Dubosky collected 14 kills, 21 assists and four digs in the match, while Rachelle Filer contributed eight kills, 12 digs, and five blocks.

PV also received eight kills, 12 digs and three blocks from Erika Dobosky, with Emilee Kwaak (six kills, 14 digs) and Sarah Zabroski (27 assists) helped in gaining the victory.

Marian at Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe got the best of Marian for a 25-16, 27-25, 25-23 Schuylkill League victory.

Brandy Montemuro led the Olympians with nine digs, nine kills and eight assists. Kelsey Carroll chipped in with 15 digs, nine assists and five kills, while Abbey McGinley (18 digs) and Katie Demarco (six digs) also played well for Thorpe.

Tatianna Zeleniak paced the Fillies’ with 17 assists and nine digs, while Macie Mazaluski finished with nine digs and eight kills. Antonina Zeleniak (19 digs), Kate Spillman (12 digs) and Alivia Karchner (seven kills) also had solid performances.

Lehighton-Lourdes

Lehighton posted a 25-16, 25-8, 25-16 Schuylkill League victory over Lourdes.

Alyssa Frey ran the Indians’ attack, finishing with 17 assists. She also added three aces. Lillian Brown and Samantha Banning spearheaded the defensive effort with 13 and 10 digs, respectively. Both players added four aces. At the net, Emily Miller led the way with nine kills.

Nazareth-Pleasant Vy.

Nazareth handed Pleasant Valley its first loss of the season with a 25-16, 22-25, 25-15, 25-18 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.

Cameron Caffrey led the Bears’ attack with 21 assists, nine digs, five kills and three aces. Also contributing for the Bears were Ari Weaver (seven kills, four assists, three digs); Desi Powell (14 kills and nine digs), Desi Beade (13 digs) and Summer Karaman (six kills, two digs).

Pleasant Valley drop to 8-1-1 overall and 5-1 in the EPC.

Tamaqua-No. Schuylkill

Tamaqua knocked off North Schuylkill for a 25-4, 25-15, 25-23 Schuylkill League win.

Emily Amershek paced the Blue Raiders’ with 13 kills, 10 aces and four digs, while Maddie Baddick recorded four assists, two aces and a kill. Ella McLaughlin added 11 digs and two aces.

Palmerton-So. Lehigh

Southern Lehigh rolled to a 3-0 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe picked up a 2-1 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.

Alex Putt and Coyote Acevedo scored the Olympians’ goals, while Ryder Wallace and Thor Huth recorded assists.

Darian Stianche posted the Blue Raiders’ lone goal.

Jim Thorpe goalie Kingsley Ehling made 11 saves. Tamaqua keeper Luke Verta recorded 13 saves.

No. Lehigh-Pen Argyl

Stivan Kumbarov’s four goals and an assist sparked Pen Argyl to a 6-0 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Mehmed Letifov added two scores and two assists for the Green Knights.

Bulldogs’ keeper Wesley Delans finished with 15 saves, while his counterpart Graham Rose recorded eight saves to post the shutout.

Blue Mountain-Lehighton

Blue Mountain blanked Lehighton, 2-0, in Schuylkill League play.

Carlos Colindres scored both of the Blue Eagles’ goals and Owen Oakley was credited with both assists.

Northwestern-Moravian A.

Zachary Creighton’s two goals propelled Northwestern to a 3-2 Colonial League win over Moravian Academy.

Sam Seyfried added a single score for the Tigers.

Northwestern goalie Zach Rosamalia finished with four saves, while his counterpart Cameron Rohotgi made 10 saves.

GIRLS SOCCER

Nativity-Lehighton

Lehighton and Nativity ended in a 0-0 Schuylkill League tie.

Alyssa Myers finished with five saves for the Indians. Grace Fenstermacher made 13 saves for Nativity.

Wyoming Seminary-

Tamaqua

Tamaqua defeated Wyoming Seminary, 3-1, in a non-league game.

Emma Kuczynski scored a first-half goal for the Blue Raiders, while Lexi Thomas and Sophia Boyle added second-half scores.

Baylee Reinhardt grabbed 12 saves in front of the Blue Raiders’ net.

Tamaqua improves to 3-3 overall.

Pen Argyl-No. Lehigh

Pen Argyl knocked off Northern Lehigh for a 5-1 Colonial League win.

Brooke Labarre and Abby Wallillick both scored two goals apiece for the Green Knights, while Delaney Porter added a single score.

Shaina Mazzocca posted the Bulldogs’ lone goal.

Northern Lehigh goalie Erica Detweiler finished with 15 saves.

Moravian A.-Northwestern

Sara Hathaway’s hat trick sparked Northwestern to a 4-1 Colonial League win over Moravian Academy.

Maggie Motolese added the other Tiger score, while Olivia Motolese, Jilly Fink, Bailey Groff and Jaymi Smith were all credited with assists.

Gabby Oudin posted the Lions’ lone goal.

Southern Lehigh blanked Palmerton for a 2-0 Colonial League victory.

Jenna Groeber and Emma Singley recorded the Spartans’ goals.

Bombers keeper Kyla Brown grabbed 17 saves.
