‘The many faces of Beethoven’ this Sunday

Dr. Xun Pan, piano and Simon Maurer, violin, will present an all Beethoven concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 215 N. Warren St., Orwigsburg.

The concert is sponsored in part by the Gabriel Chamber Ensemble.

On the program are three sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven for piano and violin: the early Op. 12 No. 2 in A Major (Mozart like); the later Op. 30 No. 3 in G Major; and the most famous of his sonatas, Op. 24 nicknamed the “Spring.”

The works will be introduced and talked about along with some interesting facts from the intense life of the giant Ludwig van Beethoven, arguably the most famous classical composer of our time. His 250th birth year will be in 2020, and the ensemble will present all 10 Beethoven piano and violin sonatas in four concerts at St. Paul’s.

Admission is free, but donations are encouraged.
