Lehighton Area School District

Lehighton Area School District’s board of directors on Monday night:

• Approved payments of $912,434 from the middle school and elementary center construction accounts

• Approved occupational tax refunds for Robyn Blair, Ronald Dreher, Cynthia Grosso, Marian Versuk, Stephen Versuk and Dorothy Wink-Eberts.

• Authorized employee payroll deductions for voluntary life and disability insurance.

• Approved a consolidated grant agreement for the 2018-19 school year including Title I Part A, $577,050; Title I Part D, $42,917; Title II Part A, $91,989; and Title IV Part A, $36,521.

• Approved an agreement with Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 for TransPerfect Remote Interpreters Products and Services for language interpreting related services for the 2018-19 school year. The monthly minimum cost is $50 if the service is used.

• Approved two employees to attend the National Association of School Resource Officers, NASRO basic SRO/SPO course in Schnecksville on Oct. 1-5 at a cost not to exceed $1,300. Funding is through the Safe School Targeted Grant for school officers.

• Approved a contract with Lehigh Carbon Community College for the district to supply meals to the 21st Century grant (Carbon County SHINE After-School Program) held in the Lehighton Area Elementary Center. The district will be reimbursed $3.49 per meal served.

• Approved a contract with Behavioral Health Associates for the district to supply meals to BHA. The district will be reimbursed per the 3086 contract.

• Authorized the business office to hold a public hearing to set Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance boundaries.

• Approved a memorandum of understanding with Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 for the Title III consortium for the 2018-19 school year.

• Approved a request for preapproval of courses for continuing education for Amber Williams and Sydney Schafer.

• Hired Tina Blocker, part-time paraprofessional, at $11 per hour.

• Accepted resignations for Chelsea German and Judy Paterson, part-time paraprofessionals; Beth Marsteller, part-time lunch aide; and James Fox, part-time cleaner.

• Approved the pilot components of a healthy outdoor recreation and leadership opportunities with Blue Mountain Resort in the eighth-grade health and wellness physical education and career curriculum. Transportation will be funded through the Ready to Learn grant.

• Approved 2018-19 handbooks for the Pre-K Counts program and the ELearn 21 Lehighton Area Virtual Academy.

• Approved George’s Transportation list of bus drivers for 2018-19.

• Approved the second reading and adoption of a policy dealing with suicide awareness, prevention and response.

• Approved a winter credit recovery program for students at a cost not to exceed $150 per class using the APEX learning system for 15 two-hour sessions after the first semester. There is no cost to the district.

• Approved SAT prep classes for English and math at the high school. There is no cost to district students.

• Approved Keystone Exam and Pennsylvania State Assessment after-school tutoring program to be held at the high school two days per week for the 2018-19 school year.
