A fugitive from Schuylkill County who has eluded federal agents for more than two months has returned to the area and law enforcement is asking residents to lock their doors and remain vigilant.

Shawn Christy, 27, is being pursued for making threats against President Donald Trump and other government officials. He has allegedly stolen five cars in five states during a manhunt that began in June, and has been reported seen as far south as Kentucky. On Tuesday, a car he stole was found outside a Walmart store in Hometown, just six miles from Christy’s hometown of McAdoo, prompting agents to search the area.

The U.S. Marshals have put out a $20,000 reward for information leading to Christy’s arrest.

During a news conference on Tuesday, state police and a deputy U.S. Marshal reminded the public that Christy is armed and dangerous, and could attempt more thefts in the area surrounding Hometown.

“There is a wanted fugitive in the area and he could be anywhere at this point. We’re not aware of his location. We want the citizens to know remain vigilant, report any suspicious activity immediately. Anything out of the ordinary, a vehicle stolen, food taken a license plate stolen, removed off a vehicle, report that immediately through 911 operations,” said Trooper Anthony Petroski, public information officer with State Police Troop N.

The marshal leading the investigation said that Christy has been elusive and capable of operating in the woods. He said Christy has also shown the ability to go for long periods without any human contact, creating a challenge for federal agents.

But Deputy U.S. Marshal Robert Clark reiterated that the U.S. Marshals will be successful in taking Christy into custody.

“He’s been a challenge for us and the other federal agencies involved, but our resolve and our commitment is going to be greater than his desperateness. We’re gonna stay on this I’ve said it since I’ve been up here in the beginning and i’ll say it til we finish, we’re up here until we bring him into custody, and we’re hoping that can be done safely,” Clark said.

State police have pledged to fully support the U.S. Marshals in their mission to apprehend Christy.

Tuesday morning, a passer-by noticed a vehicle in the parking lot of the Hometown Commons shopping center which matched the description of one which Christy reportedly stole in Maryland on Monday.

Federal agents responded and confirmed it was the GMC Sierra 1500 which they believe Christy stole from Cumberland, Md.

That prompted an investigation in the surrounding area. At least one production facility at the nearby TIDE Industrial Park was locked down as law enforcement searched the area.

“It was called in approximately 7:30 this morning, we had a deputy marshals and other federal agents up here, and they were able to respond,” Clark said.

Christy allegedly posted threats on his Facebook page against President Donald Trump and Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli.

“Keep it up Morganelli, I promise I’ll put a bullet in your head as soon as I put one in the head of President Donald Trump,” said a message which was posted and subsequently deleted from Christy’s Facebook page.

He was previously charged and convicted of making threats against former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin in 2010.

Clark said there is no evidence that Christy is receiving assistance from anyone else, and if Christy has attempted to contact his family, he is unaware.

He said that when last seen, Christy had a beard, a tan shirt and bluejeans.

Asked what he would say to Christy if he could talk to him, Clark said it would be best if Christy turned himself in.

“Quite simply, turn yourself in. I’ve said it from the beginning. Get to the nearest police station, turn yourself in,” Clark said.
