Franklin to play for PV tourney title

Franklin Township knocked off Towamensing to punch its ticket to the Panther Valley 11-12-Year-Old title game on Thursday. Tamaqua earned a walk-off win in extra innings over Weatherly in the PV 9-10-Year-Old tournament.

Towamensing-Franklin

Franklin Township punched its ticket to the championship game with a 12-2 win over Towamensing.

Elliott Ahner (2-for-2) blasted a home run and finished with two RBIs and two runs scored for Franklin, which piled up 17 hits. Aiden Rarick (three RBIs, double), Michael Gelatko (double), Austin Greene (two runs scored, RBI), Michael Yeakel (three runs scored), Dylan Greene (run scored, RBI) and Noah Barndt (two RBIs, run scored) all contributed at the plate with two hits apiece. Carter Birnbaum added a double and two RBIs.

Greene pitched five solid innings, allowing just two hits and two earned runs, striking out nine.

Dalton Rumfield (two runs scored) and AJ Borger (run scored) had hits for Towamensing.

Franklin will play Anthracite Saturday at 11 a.m. at Tri County in the championship game.

PV 9-10 Tournament

Weatherly-Tamaqua

Brady McCabe’s walk-off two-run triple in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Tamaqua to a 3-2 victory over Weatherly.

Jake Yenser drove in a run in the bottom of the sixth for Tamaqua to tie the game at 1-1 and force extra innings. Yenser pitched five innings, allowing three hits and no runs, while striking out 12.

Evan Meckes led Tamaqua at the plate, going 3-for-4.

Donadi pitched into the sixth inning for Weatherly, striking out 12 while allowing one run and three hits.

BLUE MOUNTAIN LEAGUE

Orioles-Braves

The Iron Financial Orioles pulled away from the Berlinsville Braves, scoring all of their runs in the final four innings, for a 5-1 victory.

John Yocum (triple, run scored) and Corey Webb had two hits apiece for Berlinsville (12-17).
