Kidder paves way for Valor to build retreat for veterans

Kidder Township approved an ordinance that will allow the Valor Clinic Foundation to proceed with building a retreat for veterans in the township.

The ordinance amends the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance to add the words “camp retreat” as a principal permitted use.

Albrightsville Volunteer Fire Company requested funds under the Emergency Services Fund for new turnout gear. Since January the company has brought in 11 new recruits that need to be outfitted. There are a number of active firefighters whose gear is at the end of its “10-year life.”

The company plans on purchasing 11 new sets of turnout gear from Globe Gear. The cost per set is $2,334. The township approved $9,802 toward the purchase. The company will use an additional $9,336 from the Fireman’s Relief Fund, and the balance will be paid out by the fire company.

The supervisors also approved $28,586 toward a replacement ambulance being purchased by the Lake Harmony Rescue Squad.

Lake Harmony Estates has agreed to permit residents to drive golf carts to the beach at the lake as of July 1. Police Chief Matthew Kuzma made it a point to say that the crossway on Lake Drive is to be accessed by Wood Street only and must cross the road at 90 degrees.

Kuzma stressed that Wood Street would be the only acceptable and safe option for golf cart users. He added that anyone using an alternate approach would be subject to a warning and possibly a citation.
