Jim Thorpe prepares for Old Home Week

Sometimes it’s nice to come home again.

That’s the theme of Old Home Week in Jim Thorpe, which begins Saturday and runs through July 7.

“Old Home Week is something for the whole town to celebrate,” said Diane Prokop, co-chairwoman of the Bicentennial Committee of the Jim Thorpe Tourism Agency, noting that the last Old Home Week was held in 1947. “This week is really about focusing on having people who lived here come back and celebrate their history, not just the founding of Mauch Chunk, but everything that happened throughout the 200 years.”

There will be numerous events throughout the week geared toward everyone, from free tours, shopping opportunities, a historic building window display contest, patriotic pet walk, reunions, car cruise and more, all leading up to the week’s grand finale, the Jim Thorpe Stay at Home Festival fireworks display.
