Lehighton middle school concert Wednesday

Lehighton Area Middle School Music Department presents its 25th annual spring concert Wednesday in the middle school auditorium. The fifth- and sixth- grade groups begin at 6:30 p.m. The seventh- and eighth-grade band and choirs begin at 7:45 p.m. All are welcome.

The jazz ensemble begins the program with Van Morrison’s “Domino” featuring Zachary Wilusz and Isabella Cressley. “Back Street Blues” will feature Christian Busler and Nicholas Passiglia on alto and tenor saxophone respectively. Ritchie Valens’ “La Bamba” will feature fifth-grader Isaac Carpenter.

The jazz ensemble is under the direction of Thomas Weidner, who also directs the fifth- and sixth-grade band.

The band will perform Seitz’s “March Grandioso,” followed by “Aztec Sunrise,” “Alpha Squadron” and “Woolly Bully.”

The treble chorale, consisting of fifth- and sixth-graders is also under Weidner’s direction. The chorale will perform “Blue Tail Fly,” “Moon at the Ruined Castle,” “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” and will conclude their portion of the program with “America, I Give My Thanks to You.”

The seventh- and eighth-grade portion of the program continues with Music Express, under the direction of Laura Welkey. Songs include “Cripple Creek,” “Mississippi Mud,” “Mountain Music” and “Welcome Home,” which includes a PowerPoint presentation with highlights from its trip to Washington, D.C.

The Choraliers, the seventh- and eighth-grade chorus, under Welkey’s direction will open with “There Will Be a New Day!” featuring James Lindenmoyer and Gabriella DiDea. Next, the choir performs “Lascia Ch’io Pianga;” “Sippin’ Cider With Eliza;” “Sing With Me,” featuring a solo by the eighth-grader Rylie Bryfogle; and “The Spirit of America.” Callie Hayman, an eighth-grader, will accompany the chorus on piano for several selections.

The concert band, under the direction of Beth Hudlow, will perform “Quintology,” “Costa Brava,” “Remembrance Day,” “Dr. ROCKenstein” and “Ol’ Glory March.”
