Pleasant Valley presents ‘Godspell’ this weekend

In the 1970s, “Godspell” was a big hit on Broadway with the song “Day by Day” making it to 13 on the Billboard Pop Singles Chart. The musical was brought back to Broadway in 2011 for a six-month revival.

This week “Godspell” will be presented as the spring musical at Pleasant Valley High School. The show will run Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The play is based on the parables of the Gospel of Matthew and takes a fun and musical approach to such topics as loving your enemies and forgiveness.

The only named character in “Godspell” is Jesus, who is being played by Kevin Ramsey.

Ramsey will be supported by principal actors Rachel Estrella, Kayla Ramsey, Yesha Biney, Miranda Carmella, Estrella Kodjovi, Brianna Cicalese, Grace Trebour, Giovanni Marini, D.J. Greenzweig, Chris Dela Cruz, Curtis Ramos, Aubrey Sawyer and Jozef Janak.

The principal actors will share all of the songs and storytelling.

The supporting roles will be played by Brianna Barth, Willow Krechel, Zach Smith, Danielle Cleary, Anthony Long, Samantha Brooks, Bella Lindner, Madison Jackson, Jaxon Havens, Jeanna DiAngelis and Gabrielle Larregui.

The production is being directed by Dan and Marci Mulligan. The ensemble will be accompanied by the student orchestra directed by Lois Mann.

“It will be a colorful spectacle with dancing, lively storytelling and powerful singing,” Dan Mulligan said.

Show times are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $8 for adults and $5 for students. Advanced ticket orders can be placed with Donna Morris at Morris.donna@pvbears.org.
