Slatington adopts 2018-19 budget

The borough of Slatington voted to adopt a 2018-19 budget after weeks of meeting to adjust its bottom line.

“We have a small surplus in the general and sewer funds, a hefty surplus in water, fire is balanced and we have a small surplus in garbage,” said board President Daniel Stevens.

Residents’ garbage bill will be reduced to $55 per three months beginning in April.

Alice Wanamaker of the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber and Slatington Revitalization Partnership updated the board on an online community calendar open for nonprofit and local events.

“We have the greaternorthernlehigh.com calender that we would like to list the events on the site. We are inviting Slatington to email their events to list or forward me the Facebook link and I’ll take all the details from there,” she said.

In addition, the group, formerly the Main Street Merchants, will host several events in the spring including the D & L Trail opening day on April 7.

“We are hoping to have the official designation as a ‘Trail Town’ by then. We are looking to have our welcome center open there as well,” she said.

Wanamaker asked the board if it could have the Diggity Dog trailer moved more to the side of its current location at the Main Street trailhead.

“We love having him there, but we want everyone to see how beautiful the building is when they are driving into town,” she said.
