A look back: February 2, 1989

Horsehead Resource Development Company, headquartered in Palmerton, announced the acquisition of a rotary kiln plant in Rockwood, Tennessee, which will provide a new regional base for HRD’s environmental service business.

The new plant will initially service primarily electric arc steel producers in the southeastern United States.

HRD, the environmental services subsidiary of Horsehead Industries Inc., New York, specializes in recycling of inorganic hazardous wastes (primarily those containing zinc).

The new plant will increase HRD dust processing capacity by 60,000 tons per years. HRD now processes 350,000 tons at its facilities in Chicago and Palmerton.
