Lansford man with long record sentenced on DUI charge

A Lansford man was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika on Friday to driving under the influence charges after previously pleading guilty.

Roberto B. Mehmeti, 37, of Lansford, was sentenced to serve 90 days to 5 years on the DUI charge.

Before the start of the sentencing proceeding Mehmeti pleaded guilty to one count of flight to avoid apprehension for an incident on Aug. 24, 2017, filed by Jim Thorpe police.

On two counts of driving under suspension — DUI related, Mehmeti was sentenced to serve 45 to 90 days in prison on both counts, must serve the full 90 days, and the terms run concurrently. He was sentenced to serve 56 days (time served) to 1 day less 24 months on the flight charge, concurrent with the other charges. He must also pay total fines of $3,000, license suspensions totaling 18 months on the DUI and 1 year each of the suspension charges. He was given credit for 158 days on the DUI charge and paroled.

Matika said Mehmeti’s prior record score takes up two full pages, one of the longest ever to appear before him. Matika also noted a long-term drug addiction problem for Mehmeti, telling him, “Are you ever going to take your addiction seriously?”

Mehmeti is currently an inmate in the Schuylkill County prison on drug charges and is scheduled to appear for placement in that county’s drug court.

Matika made part of his sentence the condition that Mehmeti must be admitted to the program and must successfully complete it, if not, then that would be a violation of his Carbon sentence.
