LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP: results from Jan. 25

Tyler Fritz spearheaded a late rally as Marian edged Nativity on Thursday.

Palmerton and Jim Thorpe also added boys basketball victories.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marian-Nativity

Trailing 59-50 after three periods of play, Marian erupted for 27 points in the fourth frame to pull out a 77-76 shootout win over Nativity.

The Colts’ Tyler Fritz hit for 13 of his game-high 35 points in the final eight minutes to spearhead the comeback. Fritz went 20-for-22 from the free throw line, breaking the school record of 17 held by Caszy Kosciolek.

Noah Stauffer and Chris Ritsick both added 11 points apiece for Marian (7-7, 5-3).

For Nativity, Casian Flowers scored a team-high 29 points.

Pine Grove-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe recorded a 45-41 Schuylkill League win over Pine Grove.

Justin Marykwas and Nathan Rosahac both scored 12 points for the Olympians (9-8, 3-6).

For the Cardinals (9-7, 4-5), Dawson Ibarra had 14 points.

Thorpe pulled out a 47-27 win in the JV game.

Pottsville flexed its muscles, rolling to a 62-27 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

Mason Barnes had a game-high 22 points for the Tide (12-3, 9-1).

The Indians (2-16, 0-10) received 10 points from Taquan Bradley-Chambers.

Things clicked for Palmerton as it took down Catasauqua, 78-60, in Colonial League action.

The tandem of Justin Hosier and Nate Dougherty poured in 24 and 23 points, respectively, for the Blue Bombers. Kody Kratzer added 15.

For the Rough Riders, Isaiah Graves’ 22 points led the way.

A slow start by Tamaqua spelled trouble as Blue Mountain managed to take a 59-53 Schuylkill League victory.

For the Blue Raiders (12-5, 6-4), who trailed by nine points after the first quarter, Thad Zuber led the way with 19 points. Brayden Knoblauch added 14.

Jakob Biever and Drew Grace tallied 14 points apiece for the Eagles (16-1, 10-0).

Blue Mountain also won the JV game, 52-32.
