A Philadelphia teenager is facing charges for leading police on a chase along the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in a stolen vehicle.

Sahmir McLeod, 19, is currently locked up at Carbon County Correctional Facility on $200,000 bail.

State police at Fern Ridge arrested McLeod the morning of Nov. 12, after a chase on southbound Interstate 476.

Prior to the chase, a trooper attempted to pull over the 2016 Nissan Rogue allegedly operated by McLeod. Police had learned that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Abington.

Instead of stopping, police said McLeod headed south on 476.

Troopers utilized stop sticks in the area of Hickory Run Travel Plaza to disable the vehicle. A description of the device on stopstick.com says it is “the world’s leading tire-deflation device, (ending) high-speed automobile pursuits quickly and safely.”

McLeod and a male passenger attempted to flee the vehicle, but were quickly taken into custody, according to police.

McLeod faces felony charges of receiving stolen property and fleeing police.

A preliminary hearing for McLeod has been set for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Eric Schrantz.

A 17-year-old passenger, who is also from Philadelphia, was released to a parent, and will face charges, according to state police.
