A Carbon County man had his application for house arrest rejected and was sentenced Monday to a county prison term.

Wade Anthony Matika, 25, of Lansford, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve 60 days in jail on a charge of driving under suspension — DUI related.

Matika had applied for placement in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program, but failed to follow up on his application in a timely manner. At the time of his guilty plea he requested consideration for the IPP, which Nanovic agreed to let him do.

However, on Monday, Nanovic said a report from the adult probation office indicated that Matika was told to provide certain information to the office for consideration and never did. He finally supplied the information on Nov. 7, which the probation office deemed too late. Nanovic agreed.

Matika was arrested on March 1 by Nesquehoning police after he was stopped for speeding. At the time he had a suspended license and an active warrant for his arrest on drug charges.

Nanovic also imposed a fine of $500.

On a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia he was placed on probation for a year, concurrent to the suspension count, and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and zero tolerance imposed on drug and alcohol use.

He will begin the jail term at 7 p.m. on Nov. 24 and serve it on consecutive two-day weekends.

He must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
