October 7, 1966 — Tamaqua’s Joe Ruggeri carries 15 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Blue Raiders to a 27-6 victory over Mahanoy Area. Ruggeri breaks loose for a 52-yard scoring run in the first half, and adds a 4-yard tally after the break. The winners, coached by Dick Jones, open the game’s scoring in the opening frame when Harry Wallaesa tosses an 11-yard TD pass to Gary Williams. Wallaesa also throws an 11-yard scoring strike to Joe Mikruk. Tamaqua rushes for 387 yards in the contest, with Gene Silas contributing 78 on nine carries.
