Parryville examines sewage options

The Parryville Borough has been working to design a new waste disposal system.

While it has been difficult for the borough to regulate the upkeep of sewage tanks on a house-to-house basis, the idea of a community sewage system has become the top priority.Moving forward with that, the borough has several different options.Option number one would be to create a fully structural sewage plant which would involve the construction of a building necessary for the equipment. While this option is the most reliable and would connect every house to properly treat the sewage, it proves to be the most expensive choice.A second more cost effective option was then brought to the table during Thursday's meeting. The idea was that of a nonstructural waste disposal process that has been used in Maryland. While none of these systems have ever been used in Pennsylvania, the communities where they were successful in Maryland are similar to Parryville.Council President Cathy Hawk said this second option would save almost half of the cost that would come with creating a full structural waste system while providing the same results.Hawk and other members of council voiced their concerns with the cost and also with the placement of either of these systems."We are working hard to fix up this playground, we don't want it to smell awful in the immediate area around it," explained Hawk. With the problems of overflow and areas of odor that the community is facing today, the best and most cost-effective solution will be made to bring an end to these problems, council members said. The council will sit down with the Department of Environmental Protection to discuss which option will work best. The borough is still looking to hire a part-time employee and they encourage anyone who is hardworking and reliable to apply for the position. The position is needed to help assist in day-to-day projects and especially for the tar and chip project that will begin this spring. The borough will be covering Harrity road all the way to Cherry Hill and also Fireline Road to Cherry Hill.Council will host a budget meeting at 9 a.m. Sept. 30.
