Eight first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Tuesday by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program, their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted.Timothy Carl Beckett, 39, of Wallingford, Delaware County, was placed on a driving under the influence charge. He was arrested on Jan. 21 by Kidder Township police along Route 903. A test revealed a 0.14 BAC.He was assessed $500 for the cost of the program and ordered to render 50 hours of community service, and his license was suspended for 30 days.Enajae Gustus Blount, 21, of Blakeslee, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested by state police at Fern Ridge on Feb. 11, along Route 534 in Kidder Township. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service, and his license was suspended for 60 days.Brandon Chuma, 18, of Summit Hill, was placed for 18 months on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance - marijuana, and six other drug-related charges.He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 75 hours of community service, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use.Patrick Samuel Jordan Coover, 22, of Carlisle, Cumberland County, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on April 8 along the turnpike in Kidder Township by state police at the Pocono barracks. A test revealed a 0.14 BAC.He was assessed $500, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 30 days.Michael Donovan Gilliar Jr., 28, of Albrightsville, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on March 24 along Route 534 by Kidder Township police. A test revealed a 0.21 BAC.He was assessed $550, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.Jessica Lynn Hoffman, 21, of Weatherly, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on Dec. 11, 2016, along Main Street by Weatherly police. A test result was not reported.She was assessed $450, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and her license was suspended for 90 days.Jessica Ann Ivey, 27, of New Philadelphia, was placed on a retail theft charge. She was arrested on Sept. 27, 2016, by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store.She was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and to stay out of the store.Theresa Holly Ritz, 21, of West Hazleton, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on March 11 along Route 940 in East Side Borough by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed a 0.23 BAC.She was assessed $550, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and her license was suspended for 60 days.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program and those charged with DUI must follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
