Isn't it Strange?

Dear Editor,

Isn't it strange? Over the years (I've been here 82 and counting) how things have changed. One change I have noticed more recently is that properties have taken on a different face. It seems that a property that had been well maintained for what seems centuries is suddenly purchased by someone who has the finances to purchase it, turns around and trashes it!A house and lawn that for years looked great, now begins a slow downward trend, and in weeks and months there is garbage lying around, weeds have taken over the lawn, and even junk cars now line the paved driveways. The occupants are unaware of what is happening. Then there is the corner store that once thrived; is slowly disintegrating into an eyesore. Passers-by remark, "Gee, I used to shop there every Friday for local chicken and meats."On the other hand, there is the family that has to scrape to make mortgage payments, was fortunate to purchase a rundown property, and within months brings it back to life with a little paint, flowers in the yard and some old-fashioned TLC. I guess it's just a way of life.RESPECTFULLY,RICHARD M. GROSSLEHIGHTON
