St. Luke's University Health Network is hosting a diabetes support group at its new facility in Lehighton from 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 16, at the Lehighton Medical Center, 575 S. Ninth St., Lehighton.

The group is designed to help patients dealing with diabetes, as well as family and friends. Participants will learn about the causes and effects of the disease; ideas to increase self-help, problem solving and prevention measures; and provide encouragement.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 22 million Americans are living with diabetes, and that's just the number of people who have been diagnosed. Many others are borderline diabetics or haven't been diagnosed yet.No registration is required, but interested parties are advised to call ahead of time, at 570-645-8107, to confirm the session hasn't been postponed.
