Former Summit Hill resident McFadden celebrates 90 years

Former Summit Hill resident Jean McFadden recently celebrated her 90th birthday.

Jean resides in Alexandria, Virginia, with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Chris Sexton, and their son Dylan.Before retiring, she operated the former Jean's Grocery Store at 146 W. Ludlow St., Summit Hill, for more than 40 years.Born in Tamaqua on June 26, 1927, she is a daughter of the late John F. and Josephine (Truskey) Breslin, who owned and operated the former John F. Breslin Funeral Home in Summit Hill.Jean is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, and belonged to the former Guild of Catholic Women. She was also an active and frequent pinochle player, gathering for weekly games in the social hall of St. Joseph Catholic Church.In addition to her daughter, Jean is the mother of four boys: John and Andrew, of Summit Hill, and the late Vince and the late Michael.She has six grandchildren: Michael, Sean, Andy, Eric, Dana and Dylan.Jean was the guest of honor during a weekend celebration held at her daughter's home. Family and friends came from Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland and Virginia to celebrate her becoming a nonagenarian, as did family and friends from Summit Hill, Harrisburg, Bethlehem, Lansdale, Glen Mills and New Ringgold.Area residents wanting to send her birthday wishes can do so by emailing Jean at
