Winters plays on USA basketball team at United World Games

Paul John "PJ" Winters II recently competed in the 2017 United World Games in Klagenfurt, Germany as part of the United States 16U team.

Competing against teams from 40 other countires, the United States team fininished in eighth place with a 4-3 record.The tournament was part of the Student Athlete World (SaW) Tour, which sponsors competitions in multiple sports and age levels. Student athletes are selected for the SaW teams from a national pool based on student athleticism, leadership style, and overall character.Coaching the United States team was Brad Estes. Estes has a vast background in coaching at the Division I, Division III, Junior College, High School, and AAU levels. At Division I South Carolina, he specialized in player development on the staffs of both Eddie Fogler and Dave Odom."PJ contributed to the team with integrity and did what needed to be done," coach Estes said about Winters on the last day of the World Games.After the World Games the athletes were able to tour Germany, Austria, and Italy for the remainder of their trip.PJ is currently a member of Southern Maryland's AAU basketball Dream Team under the tutelage of coaches CJ Knox and Jermaine Jackson.PJ is the son of Paul and Jennifer (Malkin) Winters of Mechanicsville, Md. He is the grandson of Ayn Lynn Malkin of Lansford; the late Dave Malkin, a long time Jim Thorpe High School coach and athletic director; Gil Brown; Alice Winters and Bud Winters. He has a younger brother, David.
