Thorpe man pleads guilty in three cases

A Jim Thorpe man pleaded guilty in three pending criminal cases on Thursday in Carbon County court and was immediately sentenced to a time-served term.

Michael Jordan Dennis, 30, pleaded before Judge Steven R. Serfass to one count each of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, tampering with or fabricating evidence and a summary count of driving under suspension - DUI related.Serfass sentenced him to time-served of 101 days to 24 months in prison on the receiving and tampering charges and two years of probation on the unauthorized use count. The probation period is consecutive to the jail term. On the suspension charge a prison term of 45 to 90 days was imposed, concurrent with the other charges.Dennis was charged with the tampering count for an incident on Sept. 4, 2016, filed by Jim Thorpe police that was following a traffic stop that also led to the suspension charge. The unauthorized use occurred on July 30, 2016, in Jim Thorpe when he took a dirt bike belonging to Kimberly Sargent without permission. The receiving incident occurred on Aug. 31, 2016, in Nesquehoning when he admitted having in his possession coins that were taken in a burglary earlier in Nesquehoning.In addition to the jail term Serfass ordered Dennis to render a total of 300 hours of community service, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, pay a fine of $500 on the suspension count, make restitution of $40 to Sargent, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and probation.
