Extension offers course for veggie growers

The objective of this course is to introduce aspiring and new vegetable producers to diverse production strategies and provide a framework for effective farm production planning.

Appropriate for farmers and market gardeners at ½ acre to 20 acre scales. Participants can expect: farm visits, presentations by Penn State Extension educators and experienced farmers, hands-on experience trying new tools/equipment for small and medium scale farms and more.The final four sessions will cover: weed management, insect and pest management, cover crops, food safety and soil fertility.Sessions will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 10, 17, 24 and 31 at Lehigh County Agricultural Center in Allentown; Pennypack Farm in Horsham; and The Seed Farm in Emmaus.The cost to register al la carte for individual workshop days is $15 each.
