Lehighton principals get raise

Administrators under Lehighton Area School District's Act 93 plan have a new contract.

The district approved a five-year deal Monday running through June 30, 2022.Business Manager Brian Feick said salary increases are 3.25 percent in the first year, 3.15 percent in the second year and 3 percent for the final three years of the pact.All employees under the contract, which includes building principals and several other managers, will pay 2 percent of their base salary toward health benefits."The employees in Act 93 now have the same medical and dental benefits as all of our other employees," Feick said.The district offers a retirement incentive through June 2019 up to $15,000 for three years of insurance coverage in a non-district plan. Through 2020 and 2021, the incentive is up to $8,000 for a three-year non-district plan, while 2022 offers no retirement incentive.Act 93 employees did lose two holidays over Christmas break, Feick said.In addition to approving the contract Monday, the district accepted the resignation of its high school principal, Craig Reichl.Reichl is headed to East Stroudsburg School District, where he will lead J.T. Lambert Intermediate School after two different stints at Lehighton Area High School."It is surely with regret that we accept it," board President Gloria Bowman said. "Craig was wonderful in his time here and we are going to miss him greatly."
