The Lehighton Area Middle School music department will present a free concert at 10 a.m. Fridayin the high school auditorium.

The sixth- and eighth-grade combined band will perform several pieces, including "Spring Song," "Teenage Muted Ninja Drummers," "Old MacDonald's Band" and the Beach Boys classic "Surfin' USA."Selected clarinet, saxophone, flute and low brass students will be featured during the small ensemble portion of the concert.The highlight of the morning will be the first performance of the beginner band. This group of students will perform in public for the first time and have just started learning how to play a band instrument less than a month ago.The beginners will demonstrate what they have learned so far.Jessica Schafer, the high school director of choirs, will narrate this portion of the program.After the concert, there will be a simple reception in the lobby to celebrate the accomplishments of the students.
