Carbon man admits to 2 robberies, thefts

An Albrightsville man pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Thursday to two robbery and theft counts and is facing a state prison term at the time of sentencing.

Kyle Scott Heim, 35, entered the pleas before Judge Steven R. Serfass at a proceeding conducted by video conference.Heim is currently an inmate in the state correctional institution at Camp Hill, serving a prison term imposed in another county. Heim was charged for criminal acts in Carbon, Monroe, Northampton and Lehigh counties.Heim admitted entering the Square One Market on April 11, 2016, in Kidder Township and demanding money from the clerk. He displayed a gun in his waistband in the incident. That led to one robbery count. He also admitted entering the General Dollar Store along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township on April 11, 2016, and demanding money from the clerk. The thefts occurred on March 25, 2016, when he took a utility trailer from the property of Michael Brakes in Penn Forest Township; and on Sept. 20, 2015, when he and a co-defendant took a generator from the Country Junction store along Route 209 in Towamensing Township.Heim claimed the gun used in the one robbery was not real but plastic. He also said all the crimes occurred while he was under the influence of drugs.Serfass told him, under state sentencing guidelines, on the robbery charges, he faces a minimum prison term of between 36 and 48 months, which is a state term.Serfass deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.Heim told Serfass he has already spent about 15 months in prison on the charges in the three other counties.
