Early morning fire in Mt. Pocahontas destroys family home

A family lost their house and pet cat when fire broke out Thursday morning at a house in the Mount Pocahontas community in Albrightsville.

Penn Forest Volunteer Fire Company responded to a 4:30 a.m. call to a home located at 49 Old Stage Road.Fire Chief David Vukovic said there were two people home at the time the fire broke out. They said the sound of the fire alarms in the home woke them.Penn Forest 2 was aided by Penn Forest 1, as well as fire companies from Albrightsville, Lake Harmony, Polk Township, Tunkhannock Township and Palmerton. Lehighton ALS also responded.No injuries were reported.Vukovic said that the cause of the fire was not readily known and that the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal will be investigating to determine the cause.The home is listed as belonging to the Rivera family. A Go-Fund-Me site was set up on Thursday to aid the family. Caitlin Holt of Albrightsville started the page which is entitled House Fire Lost Everything.“Early morning on July 6th, 2017 Devon, Samantha, Shayla, Nina, Kia and Justice’s house burnt down. Everyone is safe but the cause of the fire is unknown. The worst part of this is that everything that they owned is completely gone and destroyed. They have nothing. The top of their house was burnt to no remains and the bottom of the house is destroyed by water damage. Please help by donating anything you can. Anything would help. These great people lost everything they owned, all were asking for is to help out your neighborhood/friend/classmate/loved one.”Chief Vukovic added a special “thank you” to the American Red Cross for its assistance in lending aid to the firefighters and the family.
