4 charged after man held against will

Four people were cited by Tamaqua police after a man reported being beaten at a home on East Broad Street on June 5.

The victim told police he was at the home, "doing meth" with his ex-girlfriend and several other people. He attempted to steal some extra drugs and got into a fight with Michael J. Harley Jr., 26, of the 300 block of Schuylkill Avenue, Tamaqua. They "made up" and the victim was allowed to stay and continue to do drugs.Hours later, a different man, later identified as Phillip Michael Ryan, 28, of Hazle Street, Tamaqua, punched him several times in the face. When he tried to leave the victim was threatened with a baseball bat, wielded by William McHose, 31, of the 400 block of East Broad Street, Tamaqua. McHose and Ryan continued to threaten the man, asking him where he would like to be buried.After Ryan left the man was able to get away and went to police, telling them his cellphone and laptop were stolen during his ordeal.He was transported to St. Luke's Miner's Campus in Coaldale, for treatment of his injuries.Officers went to the home and spoke with the lease holder, Sherri Keller, 46. Also in the apartment were another woman and two men, one who identified himself as Raymond McHose, William's brother. Keller corroborated the victim's story, saying he deserved it because "he tried to steal." She said William and Mike (Ryan) had left.The cellphone and laptop were recovered from a kitchen table.While following up on the report, officers discovered that Keller and McHose had lied about McHose's identity.McHose was charged with making terroristic threats, unlawful restraint, criminal conspiracy and providing false identification to law enforcement. There is an outstanding warrant for his arrest.Harley was issued a nontraffic citation for harassment.Keller was charged with unlawful restraint and criminal conspiracy.Ryan was charged with simple assault, making terroristic threats, unlawful restraint, criminal conspiracy and harassment. There was an outstanding warrant for his arrest, which was executed on June 18 with the help of Mahanoy City police. He is in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville, in lieu of $50,000 bail in a previous case.
