Kunkletown man admits to heroin sale

A Kunkletown man admitted selling heroin to a confidential informant, but his explanation of the sale was not accepted by the court.

Tyler J. Koch, 23, entered a plea to one count of criminal use of a communication device before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic on Thursday afternoon.He was charged by Palmerton police with selling heroin to a CI at his residence along Hillside Avenue on March 12, 2016.Koch told Nanovic he was not a heroin user but said he obtained the drug for a friend. When questioned further by Nanovic concerning not being a user or dealer but knowing where to buy heroin, Koch said his friend pressured him into buying. Nanovic said Koch still didn't explain how he knew where to buy the drugs if he wasn't a user or seller.Nanovic sentenced him to serve one to 12 months in prison on the charge followed by one year of probation. He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.He was given credit for eight days spent in jail on the charge.He will begin serving the remaining 22 days on June 30 at 5 p.m. and serve it on consecutive two-day weekends.
