Pups and owners come out for Palmerton fundraiser

Well-mannered must and purebreds took over the patio at Palmerton's Joey B's Sunday afternoon for the pub's Pups & Pints fundraiser.

The Delaware Avenue location partnered together with Pocono Greyhound Rescue to give folks an opportunity to bring their four-legged family members out to socialize over a hot lunch."We've had a really great turnout," said waitress Shannon Walker."I started out with 50 waivers and already went through them," she said at 3 p.m.The event helped the borough police department raise money for a new computer system, with a portion of the funds going to the greyhound rescue."We just thought it would be a cool thing to do. Everyone loves dogs," Walker said.Owner Shari Solt said a weeklong raffle will continue to help keep the fundraiser rolling."We have 35 prizes," she said.Four tickets to the Pocono Raceway this summer were included in the drawing."We are trying to raise $5,000 for the police and we are close to the goal," she said."It's just something different. We do a lot of dine-and-donates, but we just thought it was something different and everyone is happy," Solt said.A photo booth and props were created behind the patio for families to pose with their pooches while Solt's niece, Addison George snapped the photos that will be posted to the Joey B's Facebook page."It's been a great day," said co-owner Chip Solt.Solt said the furry diners ranged from a 170-pound Bernese Mountain dog to a 2-pound Yorkie."Everyone has been well-behaved," he said.Borough Police Chief Randolph Smith, along with two officers and their families, joined the crowd Sunday afternoon."This is great, we are very appreciative to Chip for the support of the police department," he said.Lehigh Township Fire Department captain Brian Krische brought his 3-year-old, 85-pound English bulldog Rocco to the patio for the afternoon for his third-birthday."Technically he's 21 in dog years," Krische said."He loves two things, food and naps," he said.Krische said, "I came out to support the police department. I'm from a big public safety family."Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the restaurant throughout the week, leading up to Friday afternoon's drawing.
