Man who posed as attorney back in court

A Carbon County man who admitted he posed as an attorney to take retainer fees from victims was back in the county court on Thursday, pleading to more criminal charges.

Christopher Jonathan Miller, 29, of Jim Thorpe, appeared before Judge Joseph J. Matika to plea to one count of falsely pretending to hold a professional license.He admitted going to the Mahoning Township police station on March 7, 2015, and identifying himself as attorney Christopher Black.He told police he was working for a client facing criminal charges in the township and asked questions about the case. Mahoning police became suspicious of Miller and learned that Jim Thorpe police were also investigating him on other criminals charges.Earlier this year Miller pleaded guilty to impersonating a licensed attorney, theft by deception and possession of a controlled substance before Judge Steven R. Serfass in Jim Thorpe.Serfass sentenced him to serve one to one day less 24 months in the county prison with credit for 35 days already served.Matika sentenced him to time-served - 37 days. Matika also ordered him to pay court costs of about $1,000.Miller is still serving the sentence imposed by Serfass and has a detainer on him filed by officials in Florida. After he serves his minimum term in Carbon, Florida plans to extradite him to face criminal counts.
