Andress ousted

Nate Andress didn't dwell on his result - a 6-0, 6-0 loss - to Blue Mountain's Kyle Rich Wednesday at the District 11 Class 2A boys' singles tournament.

Andress focused more on what it meant to advance to the second round of the event."It was a great experience. It was really fun," said Andress. "I was probably one of the youngest kids there, so it was great."But Andress wasn't able to solve Rich, the Eagles' junior who was the fifth seed in the tournament."He would serve to my backhand a lot," Andress said of Rich. "He was just a really, really good player."The sophomore advanced to the second round by defeating Jim Thorpe's Shaun DiCostanzo 6-1, 6-3 in the opening round.Andress also advanced to the second round last year, knocking off Pen Argyl's Mason Hudnall in the first round 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.A first round victory, coupled with the experience he gained a year ago, helped Andress compose himself prior to his match against Rich."It helps to calm the nerves," said Andress "Everyone has nerves. But it's a big confidence booster getting a win like that against a quality player (DiCostanzo) in the first round. It just helps a lot."Palmerton's Marc Roselli also qualified for the district tournament. Andress is hoping the program can build off of that momentum moving forward."Hopefully, it gets more people to come out for the team," Andress said. "Tennis is such a great sport, and hopefully more people see that."UPSET... Seven of the eight seeded players advanced to Thursday's quarterfinals.
