WEISSPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL

Weissport Borough Council conducted the following business this week:

• The owner of Chantilly Goods, an ice cream parlor, asked if he could have some parking spaces designated for customers. The council said it will check with its solicitor.• Mayor Johnathon Troutman said children are piling rocks against the pier of the Thomas McCall Memorial Bridge and climbing on them. Since the rocks were placed at the pier by PennDOT, council will contact that department regarding the matter.• Council President Gene Kershner said a problem exists with dirt bikes riding on the flood levee. Arland Moyer said he will make repairs to a fence at the playground area, which will help keep the vehicles from getting onto the levee.• It was also reported that people are parking their vehicles on the tennis courts along Franklin Street. Moyer said fence repairs should stop this practice.• A $50 donation was approved for the Lehighton Fire Department.• Council member Brenda Leiby said a borough Easter Egg Hunt for Weissport residents and the grandchildren of residents will be held at 1 p.m. today in the borough park. The rain date is Sunday.• Leiby complained about the terrible condition of the driveway and parking lot at the borough hall. She described it as a "mud pit."The mayor explained how it could be fixed and suggested council obtain prices for delivery of a truck load of paving materials.• Council agreed to advertise for a part-time borough worker.• A community yard sale will be held in Weissport on May 27 and a Founder's Day is scheduled for June 3 with the rain date of June 4.• Lynette Moyer, tax collector, said residents should write separate checks for borough and county taxes. She said some residents have been combining the tax bills which makes for difficulties with record keeping.• Councilman Arland Moyer will be attending a seminar on April 11 and 12 in State College regarding flood levee matters. The only cost to the borough will be mileage for Moyer.• Attorney Gregory Mousseau, borough solicitor, said he collected $2,784 in outstanding trash balances from a resident on Bridge Street.
