N. Lehigh accepting bids for projects

A full slate of projects are on the docket in the Northern Lehigh School District.

The district will accept proposals for a pair of fuel oil tank replacements, one at the high school, and the other at the middle school, until 9:30 a.m. April 27.Greg Derr, director of support services, said the two oil tanks are both underground storage tanks.“There is no monitoring the tanks,” Derr said. “And given their age, we’d like to replace them with aboveground tanks with monitoring.”A pre-bid meeting for the fuel oil tanks will be held at 9:30 a.m. April 13 at the high school.The district will also accept proposals for its sewage pump replacement at its high school until 9:30 a.m. April 27.Derr said the sewage wastewater Pumping Station is from 1981, the year the high school was built.“The equipment is antiquated and at the end of its life cycle, and in need of replacement,” he said.A pre-bid meeting for the sewage pump replacements will be held at 9:30 a.m. April 13 at the high school.The district will also accept bids to replace eight existing entrance doors at the high school until 1 p.m. April 28.Of those, Derr said seven are exterior doors, while the other is an interior set in the main stairwell.“They are the original doors,” he said. “There’s latching problems. They’re at the end of their life cycle and it’s time for new, safe and secure doors.”A mandatory pre-bid meeting for the replacement of the doors will be held at 1 p.m. April 12 at the high school.Also, the district will accept separate bids for alterations to the high school, as well as to Peters Elementary School, until 2 p.m. May 2.Derr said the alterations will include new, secure vestibules for visitors at both facilities.“These will both be new visitor entrances into a new, secured monitored vestibule,” he said.A mandatory pre-bid meeting for the alterations to both buildings will be held at 1 p.m. April 19 at the high school, while a visit to Peters Elementary will also take place at the meeting.Derr said all of the projects are accounted for.“These are all planned projects,” he said. “They are all budgeted in the 2017-18 school year budget.”
