Revitalization … make it happen!

All across our county, from Albrightsville to Lehighton, Lansford to Summit Hill and everywhere in between, employees, residents and community members are looking for a downtown revival.

Even areas with successful downtowns like the boroughs of Palmerton and Jim Thorpe are hoping for a bit of fresh air this spring. How does revitalization happen and who makes it happen? The answer is simple … everyone. The nostalgic feel of summer parade, a night out for dinner and drinks with family, live entertainment and concerts, shopping with friends … it can happen in downtown Lehighton, but it takes work and collaboration from businesses, residents, government and local organizations such as the CCEDC, Lehigh Downtown Initiative (www.experiencelehighton.com) or Lansford Alive (www.lansfordalive.org).There are so many ways for residents to support our local businesses and see growth and vitality in our downtowns. The easiest way is by making a decision to shop locally - not just on a special Saturday, but all year round!Grab breakfast or coffee downtown with friends, check out a library book, and get everything you need to fix a leaky toilet at your local hardware store. Need your computer fixed? That can be done locally. Everything from groceries to workwear, there is someone who is doing it locally right here in Carbon County. We have a solid foundation. Let's support it an grow together. It is easy for business owners to show their support, too. Often, getting involved is as easy as staying open a bit later or offering a special discount when asked. Those looking to make a difference can join their local community program aimed at promoting shopping locally and in the downtown. If you are unsure where to start, call our office and we can help you! And as we move into spring, we can all make a difference by cleaning up. Whether you are picking up trash on the sidewalk, sweeping out front of your business or cleaning the windows, every effort makes a difference in making downtown inviting. At the CCEDC, we are looking forward to a new season full of fun activities, new events and experiences and many shops to explore. For more ways you can get involved in your community, visit our website
